Mijas Costa is a good base for a hen or stag weekend that combines one organised activity with plenty of time by the beach or pool. Local options include buggy tours, golf, padel, a spa, AquaMijas and Max Beach. The main difficulty is transport: La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol, Calahonda and Las Lagunas are separate areas, and a venue described as being “in Mijas” may still be several kilometres from the accommodation.

Choose the activity around the real headcount, fitness levels, budget and time of year. Check whether everyone wants to join or whether some guests will need somewhere comfortable to wait. Driving activities require valid licences and a completely sober driver, while any outdoor booking needs clear weather and cancellation terms.

This guide separates activities within the municipality of Mijas from excursions that require travel elsewhere. Restaurant suggestions are limited to two Metro Grupo venues in Mijas Costa: Max Beach and MAO.

Quick activity chooser

Active stag group: Mijas Buggys, golf or a padel tournament. The buggy tour provides the strongest adventure element; padel takes less time and is easier to fit around dinner.

Relaxed stag group: a Max Beach pool day or the hydrotherapy circuit at La Cala Resort. Golf also works if most of the party already plays.

Active hen group: padel followed by Max Beach, AquaMijas or a buggy tour. Choose the buggy option only if the group genuinely wants to drive off road.

Relaxed hen group: Max Beach, the La Cala Resort spa or a public-beach day. Guests can take part at their own pace without needing similar fitness levels.

Mixed ages: La Cala Beach, the coastal path, Mijas Pueblo or the spa. The Max Beach pool is restricted to adults aged 18 and over, while the La Cala Spa thermal area is for guests aged 16 and over.

Non-drinkers: buggies, padel, golf, AquaMijas, the spa and the coastal path all work without alcohol being central to the booking.

Outside summer: golf, padel, the spa, Mijas Pueblo and the coastal path are more dependable than the seasonal pool and water-park options.

Poor weather: the La Cala Resort spa is the most reliable indoor choice. Padel courts are outdoors, while golf, buggies, AquaMijas and pool bookings can all be affected by the weather.

Activities within Mijas

All eight activities below are in the municipality of Mijas, but they are not in one compact resort. Compare each address with the exact accommodation pin before collecting money.

1. Pool and beach day at Max Beach

Max Beach is a seafront restaurant with a seasonal pool area and beach beds in Riviera del Sol. Sunbeds and cabanas can be booked in advance, with food and drinks available beside the pool. The venue also runs promoted events on selected dates, but a normal pool booking should not be sold as a party event.

The pool usually operates from spring to early autumn and is restricted to guests aged 18 and over. Max Beach’s current English-language information says a sunbed includes the bed, towel service and pool access. There is normally no minimum spend in the pool area, although special-event conditions can differ.

This is a strong option for hens who want a long social afternoon and for stags planning a slower day after golf or a late night. It also allows guests to dip in and out rather than committing everyone to a competitive activity. It will not suit under-18s, anyone after a cheap public-beach day or a party expecting loud entertainment regardless of the date.

Allow at least half a day. Bed and cabana prices vary by date and zone, so use the live booking page instead of quoting an old seasonal rate. The English FAQ currently directs groups of 11 or more to contact Max Beach, although the wording differs on the Spanish page.

Max Beach is at Carretera de Cádiz, kilometre 198. Some lower Riviera del Sol properties are walkable, but much of the urbanisation is uphill. Check the route rather than relying on the distance shown in an accommodation listing.

Before paying, confirm the capacity and price of the chosen bed or cabana, pool access, towel service, event admission, minimum spend, arrival deadline and weather policy. Give the venue the true headcount and occasion. Large stag parties in particular should obtain written confirmation that the complete group will be accepted in the booked area.

2. Off-road tour with Mijas Buggys

Mijas Buggys runs guided Can-Am tours from Las Lagunas de Mijas. The routes use a mixture of public roads, mountain tracks and off-road sections, with two-seat and four-seat vehicles available.

The operator currently publishes these prices per buggy:

Two-hour tour: €145 for a two-seater or €235 for a four-seater.

Three-hour tour: €189 for a two-seater or €280 for a four-seater.

One-hour sunset tour from June to September: €120 for a two-seater or €150 for a four-seater.

Buggies work particularly well for an active stag party, although a hen group that wants an outdoor driving activity may enjoy them just as much. Four-seat vehicles allow non-drivers to join. The ride is dusty, bumpy and potentially hot, so it is a poor choice for guests with relevant back, neck or mobility problems. Pregnancy and other medical restrictions should be discussed with the operator before booking.

Drivers must be at least 18 and hold a valid driving licence. Closed-toe footwear is compulsory for drivers. The listed experience includes check-in, a safety briefing, the guided mixed-terrain route, bottled water, viewpoint stops and use of the air station afterwards. Goggles and bandanas can be added during booking.

Tours leave from Calle La Higuera 22 in Las Lagunas, inland from the holiday coast. Ask how many buggies can depart together, whether passengers and drivers may swap, what form of licence is accepted and whether the original document must be shown. Fuel, deposit, insurance cover, damage liability, weather terms and cancellation conditions should all be confirmed in writing.

Nobody should drink before driving a buggy. If the group plans to continue elsewhere afterwards, organise transport from the depot rather than relying on one participant to drive everyone.

3. Padel at Club del Sol

Club del Sol in Calahonda has four outdoor artificial-grass padel courts. The court fee includes balls, and rackets can be hired.

The current ongoing rates are €23 per court per hour, or €20 on Sundays. Racket hire is €2 per racket, and the listed prices include VAT. The club also displays a €16 summer “hot hours” offer, but its published 2026 dates ended on 31 August.

Padel suits a stag group that wants a short tournament, an active hen party or a mixed group willing to rotate between courts. A 60- or 90-minute booking is much easier to place around Max Beach or an evening meal than a full round of golf.

Four people play on each court at once. Beginners may need a coach or a simple format, and the club does not publish one standard maximum for large hen or stag bookings. Ask how many courts can be reserved at the same time so half the party is not left waiting.

The courts are outdoors, and strong afternoon heat can make play uncomfortable. Guests with knee, ankle or shoulder problems may prefer to watch. Check footwear, coaching, racket availability, changing facilities and the rain policy before paying.

Club del Sol is at Calle José de Orbaneja 8 in Calahonda. This is a hilly area and is not an easy walk from every coastal property, so check transport from the exact accommodation address.

4. Golf at La Cala Resort

La Cala Resort has three 18-hole courses, America, Asia and Europa, as well as a short course, equipment hire and practice facilities. The resort is inland from La Cala de Mijas and requires road transport from the coast.

Golf makes sense for a stag party when most of the group already plays and wants several hours together without making drinking the main activity. A hen or mixed group of golfers can use it in the same way. It is less successful when half the party does not play, as a full round will split the group for much of the day.

Allow roughly four to five hours for 18 holes, then add time for travel, check-in and equipment collection. Green fees change by course, season and tee time. La Cala currently advertises twilight golf from €55 per person and its “Play Golf with Amigos” offer from €80 per person. These are offer prices rather than a universal group rate, so check the live tee time, course and inclusions before budgeting.

Confirm handicap rules, tee-time spacing, buggy and trolley availability, club hire, dress code, maintenance dates and the latest permitted arrival time. Weather and cancellation terms also matter. Pre-book a vehicle with room for any golf bags; La Cala Resort is not within walking distance of La Cala Beach.

5. Hydrotherapy at La Cala Resort

The La Cala Resort hydrotherapy circuit includes steam and sauna areas, foot baths, experience showers, indoor and outdoor hydromassage pools, an indoor swimming pool and relaxation areas.

The two current published options are:

Two-hour hydrotherapy circuit: €40 per person.

Two-hour circuit with lunch and one drink: €65 per person.

The thermal area is restricted to guests aged 16 and over.

The spa is well suited to a relaxed hen party, non-drinkers, mixed ages or an out-of-season weekend. It can also work as a recovery activity for stags who do not want another competitive booking. It is a shared, quiet facility rather than a private party space, so guests expecting games or loud music should choose something else.

Ask how many people can enter together, whether robes, towels and lockers are included, and how lunch works with the €65 option. Treatments are separate unless stated otherwise. Anyone who is pregnant or has a relevant health condition should follow the spa’s medical guidance on heat and hydrotherapy.

La Cala Resort is inland, despite sharing its name with the coastal town. Arrange transport from Riviera del Sol, Calahonda or central La Cala.

6. AquaMijas water park

AquaMijas is a seasonal public water park in Las Lagunas, close to Fuengirola. It has slides, pools, a wave pool, a river and racing-style attractions.

The 2026 season began on 1 May. The park’s published afternoon adult prices were €18 in May, June and September and €25 in July and August, with afternoon entry from 15:00. Full-day and group prices should be taken from the live ticket system.

AquaMijas works for hens or stags who genuinely enjoy water parks and want an informal, active afternoon. Guests can choose different attractions, so the party does not need one shared confidence level. It is still a public family water park, not a private pool party or beach-club day. Expect queues, strong sun and plenty of walking on wet surfaces.

The official rules prohibit pregnant guests from using the attractions. People with casts or external prostheses are not allowed to use the attractions or pools, and individual rides have further safety restrictions.

Allow half a day or more and arrange road transport from the coast. Bring swimwear, sun protection and footwear suitable for wet surfaces. Glass, knives and other sharp objects are prohibited. Lockers, loungers and other extras are not included unless the ticket says so.

Check the closing date, live admission price, group rate, attraction closures, re-entry rules, additional charges and bad-weather terms before booking.

7. La Cala Beach and the coastal path

La Cala Beach and the Mijas coastal path provide an easy, low-cost option for an unbooked morning or departure day. Walking and access to the public beach are free; loungers, food, drinks and watersports cost extra.

This plan suits relaxed hens, non-drinkers, mixed ages and anyone trying to leave some breathing room in the weekend. It can be shortened if the weather changes or the airport transfer needs to leave earlier.

The path is public and individual sections may be affected by works, repairs or weather. Check the intended route before setting off, follow beach flags and do not plan a swim when conditions are unsafe. The official site also lists restrictions on cycling at busy times, with pedestrians given priority.

Central La Cala is the easiest base for reaching the beach on foot. A property in upper Calahonda or Riviera del Sol may still need a taxi to a safe access point.

8. Mijas Pueblo

Mijas Pueblo is the historic white village in the hills above the coast. It offers a change from pools and sport and is more comfortable outside the hottest part of the day.

A hen or mixed-age party might use it for a quiet morning, viewpoints and a walk through the village. Stags looking for a slower final-day plan can do the same. It is not nightlife and is unlikely to occupy a party that wants organised entertainment for an entire day.

Allow around two to three hours. Walking around the village is free, while individual museums and attractions may charge admission. Steep streets and uneven surfaces can be difficult for guests with limited mobility or unsuitable shoes.

Mijas Pueblo is inland and uphill. Arrange a bus, taxi or minibus from the coast and agree the return meeting point before people split up.

Activities outside Mijas Costa

Paintball, karting, canyoning and Marbella’s major nightclubs are not activities in Mijas Costa. They can be added as excursions, but the extra journey needs to be shown in the itinerary and budget.

One trip outside the area is usually enough. Travelling away every day defeats much of the point of choosing cheaper accommodation in Mijas Costa and can turn the saving into taxi fares.

Boat trips need the same care. Mijas Costa does not have a charter marina comparable with Puerto Banús or Puerto Marina. Never describe a boat as departing locally until the operator and exact meeting point have been confirmed. A Marbella yacht day requires transport to Puerto Banús and belongs in the separate Epic Yacht Marbella guide.

Activity combinations for hen groups

Spa and dinner

Book the La Cala Resort spa earlier in the day, allow time to return and change, then have dinner at MAO. This works outside the Max Beach pool season and is less dependent on good weather.

A full summer pool day

Use Max Beach as Saturday’s main booking. There is little value in squeezing padel, a long dinner and a distant club into the same day. Pool plans take several hours, and a larger party needs realistic time to shower and change afterwards.

Active but manageable

Reserve enough padel courts for 60 to 90 minutes, then leave the afternoon open. This gives the group a competitive activity without committing most of the day to buggies, golf or a water park.

Activity combinations for stag groups

A local competition

Run a padel tournament at Club del Sol, then travel the short distance towards Riviera del Sol for sharing food at MAO. Confirm the court and restaurant bookings separately.

The main adventure day

Book Mijas Buggys from Las Lagunas and leave enough time afterwards to return, shower and change. Drivers must not drink before the tour. Max Beach can be used later for dinner or a confirmed event, provided the timings are realistic.

A golf-led weekend

Make La Cala Resort the main Saturday activity and keep the evening straightforward. A round lasting four or five hours, plus transport and check-in, already fills much of the day.

Where to eat after an activity

Max Beach is the natural place to eat during its own pool day, but the restaurant and pool areas have separate booking conditions. The restaurant asks for smart-casual dress and does not permit swimwear, so check whether a separate table and time to change are needed.

MAO is next to Max Beach and suits an informal meal after padel, buggies, golf or a return to the accommodation. Its current Asian menu includes sharing dishes and a €42.50-per-person banquet. A two-person minimum is published, but large parties need to ask whether the banquet is available for their headcount and what additional conditions apply.

No other restaurants are recommended on this page.

Planning transport around Mijas

Riviera del Sol: closest to Max Beach and MAO, although many properties are uphill.

Calahonda: the location of Club del Sol; check whether the accommodation is above or below the A-7.

La Cala: the easiest base for walking to the beach, but it is not the same place as La Cala Resort.

Las Lagunas: closest to Mijas Buggys and AquaMijas, inland from the holiday coast.

Mijas Pueblo: a separate hill town reached by road from the beaches.

For eight or more passengers, compare one minibus with several taxis. Give the driver the full address, activity start time and actual passenger count. Mention golf bags and, for airport journeys, every suitcase.

Do not rely on straight-line map distances. The A-7, steep roads and private urbanisations can turn a short-looking route into an impractical walk.
