Marbella, Ibiza and Mykonos all offer sunshine, beaches and late nights, but they suit quite different trips.
Choose Ibiza if the music programme and all-night clubbing are the main reasons for going. Mykonos suits a smaller group that values scenery, polished beach venues and does not mind a high budget. Marbella is the most adaptable option for a party trying to combine meals, activities, beach time and nightlife over one short weekend.
Marbella does not win every category. Ibiza has a club calendar that neither of the other destinations can match, while Mykonos has a Cycladic setting that cannot be recreated on the Spanish coast. Marbella’s strength is the amount of choice: the itinerary can be active, food-led, beach-led or a mixture of all three.
The comparison at a glance
The figures below are broad planning allowances, not package prices. They use the same basic trip for each destination: return flights from London, two nights of shared accommodation, food, essential local transport, one paid daytime plan and one main night out. Checked luggage, premium villas, beach-club spending, nightclub tables and heavy personal drinking can push any of the three above these ranges.
| Comparison | Marbella | Ibiza | Mykonos |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approximate direct flight from London | About 2 hours 45 minutes to Málaga, followed by roughly 45 minutes by road to Marbella | About 2 hours 25 minutes; Ibiza Town is around 10 minutes from the airport | About 3 hours 45 minutes direct; routes are more seasonal and some travellers may need a connection |
| Broad two-night planning allowance | €550–€1,050 per person | €700–€1,400 per person | €800–€1,600 per person |
| Nightlife | Puerto Banús bars, live music, beach events, nightclubs and a seasonal festival | The strongest large-club and electronic-music programme of the three | Day-to-night beach venues, sunset sessions and clubs, generally with a more exclusive feel |
| Beaches and scenery | Convenient Mediterranean beaches in an urban resort setting | A wide range of beaches, coves and sunset spots | Whitewashed towns and Aegean beaches give it the most distinctive setting |
| Daytime activities | Golf, padel, paintball, canyoning, boats, watersports, spas and more | Particularly strong for boats, beaches, watersports, wellness and exploring the island | Beaches, boats, Delos, watersports, shopping and long lunches |
| Group dining | The broadest practical choice for a large party | Excellent range, though destination restaurants and beach venues can be expensive | Strong on scenic and higher-end dining; harder for a price-sensitive party |
| Local transport | Spread along the coast, so taxis or minibuses are often needed | The airport is close, but towns, beaches and clubs sit across the island | Distances are short, but the town, beaches and major venues are not one walkable area |
| Main season | The longest useful season of the three | Best for a party trip while the main club season is running | Mainly a late-spring to early-autumn group destination |
| Best for | Larger or mixed-priority parties wanting variety | Groups choosing the destination for DJs and late clubs | Smaller, style-led groups prioritising scenery and premium beach days |
| Main drawback | Less club depth than Ibiza and more road travel than the name “Marbella” suggests | Club tickets and repeated island journeys add up quickly | The strongest spending pressure and the longest journey from the UK |
These ranges are deliberately wide. Dates, departure airport, room allocation and drinking habits can change the total considerably. Use them to decide which destination is worth pricing properly, not as a substitute for live quotes.
Which destination suits which priority?
Major nightclubs and international DJs: Ibiza.
Scenery and a polished beach-led trip: Mykonos.
Daytime activity choice: Marbella.
A budget that needs room to change: Marbella, although Puerto Banús can still be expensive.
A two-night break built around music: Ibiza.
A smaller, high-budget hen party: Mykonos.
A large or mixed-age party: Marbella.
Travel outside the main summer party season: Marbella.
The rest of the guide explains the trade-offs behind those answers.
Travel from the UK
The flight is only part of the journey. Airport transfer time, seasonal routes and the group’s departure airports can matter just as much.
Ibiza
Ibiza has the shortest London flight in this comparison. British Airways gives an approximate flight time of 2 hours 25 minutes and describes Ibiza Town as about 10 minutes from the airport. The airport has direct bus routes to Ibiza Town, Playa d’en Bossa, San Antonio and Santa Eulària, although services vary by route and season. See the official Ibiza Airport bus information.
That makes Ibiza efficient for a short trip, particularly if the accommodation and main club are in the same part of the island. It becomes less simple when the beach day, dinner and club are in three different areas.
Marbella
British Airways gives a London–Málaga flight time of around 2 hours 45 minutes. Marbella is then about 45 minutes by road in straightforward traffic, with longer journeys possible for Puerto Banús, accommodation farther west and busy summer weekends.
A direct coach runs between Málaga Airport and Marbella bus station, but it is not door to door. Most groups will still need taxis or a transfer at one end, and there is no railway to Marbella.
Mykonos
The current British Airways estimate from London is 3 hours 45 minutes. Direct UK routes are more seasonal than services to Málaga, and some regional-airport travellers may need to connect in Athens or travel through London.
The airport is close to Mykonos Town. Mykonos Airport confirms a public bus service between the terminal, Mykonos Town and other destinations. The island is small, but that does not put every beach, restaurant and late venue within walking distance.
Travel verdict
Ibiza is generally the quickest way into a two-night party trip. Marbella’s airport transfer is longer, but Málaga often gives a group more flight options to compare. Mykonos can be worth the journey for three nights; it is less efficient for a party with scattered departure airports and only a weekend away.
Compare flights from the airports people will actually use. A convenient London timetable is irrelevant if several guests are travelling from Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin or Manchester and need an extra hotel night or connection.
How the costs differ
There is no single price for any of these destinations. A Marbella apartment during a major event may cost more than an October room in Ibiza, while two VIP nights in Puerto Banús could exceed a carefully planned Mykonos weekend. The useful question is where each destination creates spending pressure.
Marbella: the easiest budget to reshape
For a typical two-night Costa del Sol trip, use €550–€1,050 per person including flights as a broad planning allowance. Around €800 per person is a reasonable middle target for shared accommodation, proper meals, transport, one paid activity and two nights out without a premium club table.
The organiser has several ways to alter the total:
Stay in San Pedro de Alcántara or Cancelada instead of beside Puerto Banús.
Choose an apartment or villa where the proper beds will all be used.
Pay for one main activity and keep the second day flexible.
Use a group menu for the main meal rather than adding bottle service.
Build an evening around restaurants, marina bars or live music instead of booking a major club twice.
The saving disappears if cheaper accommodation leads to repeated taxi journeys across Marbella. Price the property and transport together.
Ibiza: clubs and island journeys add up
Use €700–€1,400 per person as a cautious allowance for the same two-night trip. Simple accommodation and one club night may keep the total near the lower end. A famous beach venue, two large clubs and frequent taxis can take it beyond the upper figure without turning it into a formal luxury break.
Live calendars show why nightlife must be priced by date. On 7 September 2026, standard tickets for upcoming nights at Hï Ibiza ranged from €50 to €110. Cheaper early-entry tickets came with a stated arrival deadline. Pacha Ibiza listed tickets from €30 to €135, depending on the artist and night. These are examples from one date, not average prices, and they do not include drinks, transport or a table.
Ibiza can still work on a moderate budget if the party chooses one important club night, uses buses where practical and avoids making every daytime plan a premium beach booking.
Mykonos: premium spending enters the plan early
Use €800–€1,600 per person as a broad allowance. A party can spend less by choosing modest accommodation, free beaches, buses and local tavernas. The Mykonos weekend many groups picture, however, tends to include high-demand accommodation, a well-known beach venue, transfers and dressed-up evening plans.
As a current illustration, Scorpios Mykonos publishes a daily cabana fee of €200 in its Oasis and Slope areas and €240 in the Private Beach area. One cabana holds up to four guests. Extra sunbeds are listed at €50 or €60 per person, depending on the area. Food, drinks and transport are additional. These figures describe one premium venue, not the cost of a general beach day; public beaches remain available without a cabana booking.
Cost verdict
Marbella normally gives the organiser the most room to adjust the plan, not necessarily the lowest price for every element. Ibiza offers clear value to a group that cares enough about a particular DJ to justify the ticket. Mykonos makes more sense when its setting and beach venues are part of the activity rather than incidental scenery.
Price the same dates and inclusions in all three places. Include baggage, deposits, local transport and the guest of honour’s share.
Nightlife: three different kinds of party destination
Ibiza: the strongest club programme
Ibiza suits a group whose first question is “Who is playing?” The 2026 Hï calendar listed different residencies across the week, covering several branches of electronic music. Pacha showed consecutive events running from 23:00 to 06:00.
Choose the date around the artist, promoter or style of music. Booking an arbitrary weekend and hoping the right event appears is risky.
The drawbacks are straightforward:
A large club night needs a ticket and a travel plan.
Early-entry tickets only save money if everybody can arrive on time.
Drinks and taxis sit on top of admission.
Table minimum spends need direct confirmation.
Mixed music tastes can make an expensive booking divisive.
If dancing until 06:00 to a major international DJ is the point of the trip, Ibiza is the clearest choice.
Mykonos: sunset into night
Nightlife often starts earlier in Mykonos. A typical day may run from a beach reservation into sunset music, dinner and dancing, followed by bars or a late club for anyone still going.
Scorpios shows how that format works. Its Terrace currently operates from 17:00 to midnight. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays anchor its main music rituals, with softer programming on Mondays and Wednesdays and more energy towards the weekend. It is a programmed day-to-night venue, not an Ibiza-style superclub.
Mykonos Town also has late bars and clubs. The difference is emphasis: scenery, sunset, presentation and the table are often as important as the dancefloor.
This suits a party that enjoys dressing up and wants the beach day to lead naturally into the evening. It is less comfortable when budgets differ sharply or a large all-male party needs straightforward entry without a prior conversation.
Marbella: more variety, less club depth
Marbella’s nightlife is spread across Puerto Banús, Río Verde, Nueva Andalucía, the Golden Mile, Nagüeles, the town centre and beach venues farther east. A party can choose marina drinks, live music, a restaurant with confirmed entertainment, a beach event or a nightclub.
That flexibility works well for hen parties and mixed-age groups because not everyone has to finish at the same type of venue. It also suits stags who want one proper late night after an active day rather than two nights organised around DJs.
There are permanent late clubs. FITZ Marbella, for example, currently gives its usual hours as midnight to about 06:00, although age rules and other conditions can depend on the event. Marbella also has Starlite Occident, a seasonal festival with concerts and separate late Sessions. It should not be described as a year-round nightclub.
Marbella cannot match the depth of Ibiza’s weekly club programme. Anyone travelling mainly for globally known residencies may find it limited.
Nightlife verdict
Ibiza has the greatest club scale and artist choice. Mykonos is stronger for a polished sunset-to-night plan. Marbella is better when the party wants different styles of evening over the same weekend.
Beaches and scenery
Mykonos: the most distinctive setting
The white streets, windmills and Little Venice give Mykonos a recognisable identity away from the beach. The Greek National Tourism Organisation presents the island as a meeting point between cosmopolitan life and its Cycladic setting.
For a hen party that wants photographs, sunset and a dressed-up beach day to be central, Mykonos has the strongest backdrop. Its “island of the winds” nickname also hints at a real limitation: exposed conditions can affect boat trips and make a beach day breezier than the photographs suggest.
Ibiza: the widest range of island beaches
Ibiza combines party beaches with pine-backed coves, quieter northern areas and west-coast sunsets. The official Ibiza tourism site also highlights heritage, nature, wellness and active tourism, rather than presenting the island solely through its clubs.
It suits groups that want to explore more than one coastline or build the day around a boat and sunset. That variety brings more travel: the chosen cove, accommodation and club can all be in different parts of the island.
Marbella: the easiest beach time to fit around other plans
Marbella’s beaches are convenient, particularly for accommodation near the Golden Mile or Puerto Banús. They work well for a few hours between brunch and getting ready, and a Puerto Banús boat departure need not take up most of the day in transfers.
The coastline is attractive, but it does not have Mykonos’s Cycladic character or Ibiza’s range of secluded coves. Its advantage is convenience.
Beach and scenery verdict
Mykonos has the strongest overall setting. Ibiza offers the greatest beach variety. Marbella makes it easiest to fit beach time into a busier itinerary.
Food and group dining
All three destinations have good food. For a hen or stag organiser, the more useful question is how easily 10, 14 or 18 people can eat together without the reservation consuming the budget or the whole evening.
Marbella: the broadest practical choice for a large party
Marbella can provide an informal marina meal, a dressed-up dinner or a restaurant with entertainment on selected dates. Restaurant recommendations on this site remain within Metro Grupo.
Jack’s Smokehouse is useful for a large, informal meal in Puerto Banús because its menu covers familiar choices. Nomad suits a higher-spend evening when its current entertainment programme matches the date. Other Metro Grupo restaurants can be chosen according to location, menu and the kind of night planned.
Ask each venue for current group menus, deposits, final-number deadlines and payment terms. Do not assume entertainment is offered every night.
Ibiza: excellent food, with a wide price gap
Ibiza has local restaurants and casual options alongside destination dining and famous beach venues. Eating well need not be expensive, but attaching every meal to a sunset or club location changes the cost quickly. Accommodation within walking distance of casual food can make a substantial difference.
Mykonos: memorable settings, less room for compromise
Traditional tavernas provide an alternative to high-end international restaurants. A party can reduce costs by eating locally and keeping beach days simple. A weekend built around famous venues and Mykonos Town reservations will be much harder on a mixed budget.
Food verdict
Marbella is the easiest for a large party with varied tastes. Mykonos is compelling when the restaurant setting is part of the celebration. Ibiza sits between them, with a large price difference between local meals and destination venues.
Daytime activities
Marbella: the widest choice
Marbella and the surrounding Costa del Sol give different personalities more options:
A private Epic Yacht Marbella charter from Puerto Banús.
Golf and padel.
Paintball, karting and buggy tours.
Canyoning and inland adventure activities.
Paddleboarding, jet skis and other watersports.
Spa, yoga, Pilates, dance or cocktail sessions.
Some take place outside Marbella and require a minibus. Even so, the range is useful: an active stag party can organise a competitive day, while a hen party can pair a boat with wellness or a social class.
Ibiza: strongest for sea, wellness and exploring
Ibiza fits boats, beaches, watersports, wellness, markets and Dalt Vila naturally. Its official tourism site recommends four to seven days for exploring several parts of the island, while recognising that shorter breaks work. On a weekend, choose one side of the island rather than spending hours crossing it.
Mykonos: better when a slower day is the plan
Mykonos offers beaches, boats, watersports, shopping, Mykonos Town and trips towards Delos. It suits a group happy to make a beach reservation, long lunch and sunset the main daytime plan.
It is less convincing for stags seeking several competitive activities. Those activities are not as central or varied as they are on the Costa del Sol.
Activity verdict
Marbella has the best range. Ibiza is stronger for an island-and-sea itinerary. Mykonos suits groups that actively want a slower, more polished day.
Accommodation and getting around
Marbella
“Marbella” can mean the town centre, Golden Mile, Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía, San Pedro de Alcántara or accommodation farther west. These do not form one walkable resort.
Puerto Banús is easiest for the marina and its nightlife. Central Marbella suits the Old Town. Nueva Andalucía has many villas but often needs taxis. San Pedro and Cancelada can reduce the accommodation price, provided the saving is not lost to repeated journeys.
The range of hotels, apartments and larger villas helps big parties. Check the exact pin, bed layout, group rules and road access before paying.
Ibiza
Playa d’en Bossa suits groups prioritising clubs and proximity to the airport. Ibiza Town works for restaurants, bars and Dalt Vila. San Antonio gives access to west-coast sunsets and a different nightlife base. A villa provides space but usually increases reliance on booked transport.
Airport buses and the wider island network can help during the day. A large party leaving a major event should still agree the return journey before going out.
Mykonos
Mykonos Town gives the easiest walking access to bars and restaurants. Ornos and Platis Gialos suit beach-led stays, while accommodation beside another beach may require transport every evening.
The island is compact, but limited roads and high demand can make it difficult to find several vehicles together. Arrange important group journeys in advance.
Logistics verdict
Ibiza has the quickest airport-to-nightlife transition. Marbella offers the most accommodation choice for a large party but covers the widest area. Mykonos is geographically small yet unforgiving when transport has not been planned.
When to go
Marbella
May, June and September offer the most useful balance for many parties. July and August bring the strongest summer demand and heat. April and October suit golf, padel, restaurants and flexible outdoor plans with a weather backup. Of the three destinations, Marbella is the easiest to adapt outside midsummer.
Ibiza
Choose the date around the club calendar if nightlife is the priority. Summer suits beaches, water activities and the full outdoor programme; the official tourism site recommends spring and autumn for a slower visit. Hï Ibiza’s 2026 calendar ran major residencies through late September and into early October, but every club sets its own opening and closing dates.
June and September often give a useful compromise between an active club calendar and August pressure. July and August are better for groups that deliberately want the busiest version of the island.
Mykonos
Mykonos is most dependable for this kind of trip from late spring to early autumn. Summer has the fullest beach and music programme. June and September may be more comfortable than the peak weeks, but direct flights and venue calendars need checking for the actual date.
Season verdict
Marbella has the longest flexible season. Ibiza is strongest when a residency determines the date. Mykonos works within a narrower, summer-led window.
Which is best for a hen party?
Choose Marbella for mixed priorities
Marbella works when some guests want a private boat and club, while others prefer a good meal and an earlier finish. It is easier to adapt for mixed ages and budgets because skipping one expensive or physical plan does not undermine the whole trip.
It is not the right choice if the bride wants the weekend centred on one international DJ.
Choose Ibiza when music is the shared priority
Ibiza suits a hen party that agrees on the music, expects late nights and is happy to buy tickets before travelling. Boats, beaches and wellness can stop the weekend becoming two days of recovery between clubs.
It is weaker when the party is divided between serious clubbers and guests who resent high entry prices, queues or very late finishes.
Choose Mykonos for a smaller, higher-budget celebration
Mykonos suits a small or medium-sized party that values scenery, outfits, photographs, sunset and a polished beach day. The setting can carry the weekend without several conventional activities.
It becomes harder when the group is large, price-sensitive or expects Ibiza’s range of club events.
Which is best for a stag do?
Choose Marbella for activities and one strong night
Marbella suits stags wanting paintball, golf, padel, karting or watersports before a night in Puerto Banús. It is also easier to adapt for non-drinkers and anyone who wants time away from the party.
Large all-male groups should be open about their numbers when booking. Premium restaurants and clubs may require advance acceptance and will still apply their entry rules.
Choose Ibiza for a music-led stag weekend
Ibiza makes sense when the group genuinely follows house, techno or another part of the island’s programme. Buy tickets for the particular artist and night. Admission still depends on valid identification, behaviour and the venue’s conditions.
Famous clubs alone do not make it the right stag destination. A party indifferent to the music may pay heavily for a night it could have had elsewhere.
Choose Mykonos only when its style fits
Mykonos can work for a smaller, high-budget stag party interested in boats, beach venues, food and a polished evening. It is the weakest of the three for a large group seeking value, several competitive activities or easy entry to premium venues.
That is a matter of fit rather than quality. Mykonos works best when the party wants its particular pace.
When Marbella is not the right choice
Consider one of the islands if:
The entire party wants internationally known DJs and clubbing until 06:00. Ibiza is more convincing.
Scenery matters more than activity choice. Mykonos has the strongest visual identity and a more distinctive premium beach culture.
A specific performer or event is the reason for travelling. Follow the event instead of forcing another destination into the plan.
The group wants a short airport transfer and one principal club district. Playa d’en Bossa can make an Ibiza weekend more efficient than a villa on Marbella’s spread-out coast.
Nobody is willing to plan taxis or minibuses. A poorly located Marbella property will create more travel than expected.
Marbella is the sensible answer only when its combination of activities, food, accommodation and flexible nightlife matches the party.
The simplest way to decide
Choose Ibiza if the group says: “We are going for the clubs.”
Choose Mykonos if the priority is: “We want the most striking, polished weekend and accept the cost.”
Choose Marbella if the problem is: “We need one destination that can keep a mixed party happy for three days.”
If the answer is still unclear, ask each guest to rank these from one to five:
Major clubbing.
Beaches and scenery.
Daytime activities.
Food and social time.
Keeping the total manageable.
If clubbing wins comfortably, choose Ibiza. If scenery and premium beach time dominate, choose Mykonos. If the scores are spread across the list, Marbella is likely to be the easiest compromise.
