Benalmádena is usually easier to plan on a moderate budget than Marbella. The main appeal is Puerto Marina: restaurants, bars, the waterfront and Malapesquera Beach are close together, Málaga Airport is nearby, and a party staying on the Benalmádena Costa side of town can do much of the weekend on foot.

It offers a different kind of trip from Puerto Banús. Nights are more bar-led and less dependent on club tickets, dress codes and high table spends. That suits groups looking for beach time, a good meal and a busy marina evening, but it will not satisfy anyone travelling mainly for Marbella’s premium clubs and beach venues.

This guide recommends Metro Grupo restaurants only. Each one is in Puerto Marina, keeping the food suggestions relevant to a Benalmádena itinerary rather than sending the party elsewhere on the Costa del Sol.

Is Benalmádena right for your group?

Benalmádena suits:

Groups that want a sunny weekend without paying Puerto Banús prices throughout.

Hens who prefer beach time, cocktails, dinner by the marina and a busy bar to a strict club itinerary.

Stags looking for straightforward food, drinks and activities without relying on nightclub tables.

Mixed-age parties that need somewhere sociable but not entirely club-focused.

Short trips where simple airport transfers and fewer local taxi journeys matter.

Anyone who wants several restaurant choices in one compact area.

It is less suitable for:

A party whose priority is Marbella’s premium beach venues or major clubs.

Guests expecting a highly polished, exclusive setting every night.

A group planning to travel to Marbella or Puerto Banús on both evenings, as the return journeys can remove much of the saving.

Anyone booking accommodation in Benalmádena Pueblo and assuming it is beside the marina.

Benalmádena covers several distinct areas. Puerto Marina and Benalmádena Costa are on the seafront. Arroyo de la Miel is inland and contains the railway station, while Benalmádena Pueblo is the hilltop old town. A property described only as “Benalmádena” could be in any of them.

Benalmádena or Marbella for a hen or stag weekend?

Choose Benalmádena for:

A generally lower restaurant and accommodation budget.

A marina where the beach, bars and restaurants are close together.

A shorter transfer from Málaga Airport.

A social evening that does not depend on costly club tickets or a minimum-spend table.

A weekend that needs to work across different ages and budgets.

Choose Marbella for:

High-profile clubs, premium beach venues and more fashion-conscious nightlife.

A larger choice of luxury villas and high-spend activities.

A Puerto Banús yacht charter as the main event.

A party comfortable arranging taxis, tables and timed events in advance.

Benalmádena is not automatically cheap. Accommodation in July and August, public-holiday dates and several paid activities can still push up the total. Its advantage is flexibility: dinner and a good night out do not have to involve a premium booking.

Why Puerto Marina works as a base

Puerto Marina combines pedestrian quays, restaurants, bars, shops and boating activity around one waterfront area. Benalmádena’s official tourism site also highlights its water sports and proximity to the beaches.

The practical benefit is that the party can eat, have drinks and continue the evening without repeatedly ordering taxis. Anyone leaving early may also be able to walk back independently, provided the accommodation is genuinely close to the marina.

Summer is busy, so reserve the main group meal. A walkable area does not mean a restaurant can seat 15 or 20 people together without notice.

Where to stay

Puerto Marina and Benalmádena Costa

This is the easiest area for a restaurant-led weekend. It keeps the party near the marina, promenade and beaches and reduces the need for taxis after dinner.

Check the property’s exact entrance rather than relying on the listing title. Some accommodation advertised as near the marina is across a busy road or closer to Torremolinos. Ask the host about hen or stag bookings, noise, visitors, deposits, pool rules and luggage storage after checkout.

Arroyo de la Miel

Arroyo de la Miel has the Cercanías station and a wider spread of accommodation, but it is inland. It is not the same as staying beside Puerto Marina. Most parties will need a taxi or bus for restaurant bookings and late evenings by the water.

Benalmádena Pueblo

The Pueblo has a traditional hilltop setting but is inconvenient for a trip centred on Puerto Marina. It requires road transport, and the uphill location matters after a late night. Stay there because the party wants the Pueblo itself, not simply because the listing says Benalmádena.

Puerto Marina restaurants for groups

Jack’s Smokehouse: a straightforward informal meal

Jack’s Smokehouse Benalmádena is at Dársena de Levante, Local C5–6. Burgers, smoked meats, steaks, salads, fajitas and vegetarian dishes give a large party enough choice without making the booking complicated.

Two group menus are currently published:

San Francisco — €30 per person: a choice of starter and main, with one pint, glass of wine or soft drink. Dessert can be added for €7.

Atlanta — €38 per person: a wider choice of starters and mains, with one pint, glass of wine or soft drink. Dessert can be added for €7.

These menus make it easier to set a per-person budget than ordering freely from the main menu. Jack’s suits a large stag party, an informal hen dinner or any booking where tastes and budgets vary.

It is not a quiet or formal celebration restaurant. Ask the venue to confirm the table layout, whether everyone must use the same set menu, dietary alternatives, deposit, cancellation deadline, final numbers and payment method. A casual restaurant still has the right to refuse drinking games, explicit props or disruptive behaviour.

Metro Ristorante Italiano: Italian food by the water

Metro Ristorante Italiano is at Dársena de Levante, Local A20. It has a waterfront terrace, an air-conditioned interior and a shaded side terrace. The choice of pizza, pasta, risotto, meat and fish is helpful for mixed ages and different diets.

Current two-course group menus are €25.95 and €29.95 per person. Dessert can be added for €7. On the à la carte menu, pizzas start at €9.95 and pasta at €13.50, with higher prices for premium pasta, meat and fish dishes.

Metro is well suited to a relaxed hen dinner, a mixed-age celebration or a party that wants a marina setting without making dinner the costliest booking of the weekend. A stag group wanting a louder, bar-led meal may prefer Jack’s or Cantina.

Confirm that the set menus are available for the date and group size, whether everyone must choose the same menu, what drinks are included, the table location, shade, allergy arrangements, deposit and final-number deadline.

Cantina Mexicana: informal food and cocktails

Cantina Mexicana is beside Kaleido at the eastern end of Puerto Marina. The menu includes tacos, quesadillas, nachos, burritos, fajitas and cocktails, with several dishes suitable for sharing.

Current burritos cost €16–€18 and fajitas €16–€21. Tacos and quesadillas are mostly €10–€12.50, while larger main dishes rise to €32. These are à la carte prices rather than a published group package, so cocktails and repeated sharing plates can make the final bill less predictable.

Cantina is a good starting point for a hen night built around cocktails or a stag party that wants informal food before drinks. Its position next to Kaleido also avoids another journey later in the evening.

Ask whether a group or pre-selected sharing menu is available, how many people can sit together, the deposit, decoration rules, allergy handling, pre-orders, included drinks, split payments and any finishing time on the table.

Gaucho Grill: steak and a food-led evening

Gaucho Grill Benalmádena is next to Metro in Puerto Marina and specialises in Argentinian-style meat cooked over charcoal.

Current prime cuts include a 300g rump steak at €24.50, 300g entrecôte at €27.75, 300g rib-eye at €29.95, 250g fillet at €32.95 and 250g Wagyu flank steak at €39. The mixed grill for sharing is €45, while the 550g chateaubriand for sharing is €61.95.

Gaucho makes sense for a stag group that genuinely wants steak or a smaller party treating dinner as the main event. It is less practical for a large booking with several vegetarians or a strict fixed budget unless the restaurant can provide an appropriate group arrangement.

Ask about set menus, the comfortable table size, steak pre-orders, vegetarian choices, sides and sauces, deposit, cancellation terms, final numbers and how the bill will be paid.

Kaleido: food, drinks and a later finish

Kaleido is at Dársena de Levante, Locales 1–3. It operates as an all-day bar and kitchen before becoming a later-night venue. The official site describes it as a restaurant, bar and nightclub and currently lists opening from 10:00 to 02:00.

The menu is more casual than at the restaurants nearby. Current sandwiches and burgers cost around €14.50–€18.50, while main dishes range from €15 to €32. The venue also advertises drink packages, private events and hen and stag bookings.

Kaleido works best when the party wants to stay for drinks and music after eating. It is also useful on arrival night because guests can join as their flights land without everyone being tied to a formal dinner time.

The current events page states that there is a DJ every night. Named live performers and themed events still depend on the date, so check the programme before advertising a particular show. Confirm the table or private area, package price, deposit, arrival time, group size, decorations and cancellation terms.

Which restaurants suit hen groups?

Metro for a relaxed waterfront dinner: published set menus and a broad Italian menu make it easy to organise for mixed ages.

Cantina for food and cocktails: useful when the meal is the beginning of the night and the party wants to continue next door at Kaleido.

Jack’s for a large, informal booking: the clearest choice when guests have different tastes or budgets.

Gaucho for a smaller food-led celebration: better when most people want steak and the group is happy with à la carte pricing.

Kaleido for music afterwards: convenient for a later finish, but named entertainment must match the actual date.

A hen weekend here does not need a premium restaurant and nightclub table. A beach afternoon, dinner at Metro or Cantina and a confirmed evening at Kaleido can form the main day without leaving Puerto Marina.

Which restaurants suit stag groups?

Jack’s for the main large-group meal: the broad menu and two published group prices make budgeting straightforward.

Gaucho for steak: suitable when grilled meat is the point of the dinner, rather than just one choice on a large menu.

Cantina for an informal start: fajitas, tacos and cocktails work before a bar-led evening.

Metro for mixed ages or a quieter stag: a calmer waterfront meal with more choice for guests who do not want steak or barbecue.

Kaleido for late drinks and music: keeps the group together after dinner, provided the booking and event details are confirmed.

Large all-male parties should still book honestly. A relaxed marina does not mean every venue will accept drinking games, explicit props or disruptive behaviour.

Beaches and daytime plans

Malapesquera Beach is beside the Puerto Marina area, while Santa Ana and Bil Bil lie further west along the seafront. Benalmádena’s tourism site describes more than nine kilometres of coastline, with broad beaches as well as smaller coves.

A simple beach day is one of the advantages of staying here. The party can spend the morning or afternoon by the sea, return to nearby accommodation to shower and then walk to dinner. There is no need to book a day bed or minimum-spend package for the plan to work.

Other options include:

Walking around Puerto Marina and the seafront promenade.

Booking a licensed boat or water activity departing from the marina. No operator, price or capacity is recommended here until an approved provider is confirmed.

Visiting SEA LIFE Benalmádena beside the marina as a wet-weather or low-key option. Check current admission, opening times and group arrangements directly.

Travelling inland to Arroyo de la Miel for the cable car, subject to its operating calendar and the weather. It requires transport and is not a marina activity.

Follow beach flags and local safety advice. Heat, wind and sea conditions can make an activity unsuitable even when the operator remains open.

Cocktail masterclass at Kaleido

Kaleido’s current cocktail masterclass runs from 16:30 to 18:00 and lasts 90 minutes. It costs €50 per person, with a €20-per-person deposit and a minimum of four guests. Each participant makes three cocktails with a mixologist.

This is a useful option for a hen group or a mixed party that wants one organised activity without leaving Puerto Marina. It is alcohol-led and will not suit non-drinkers unless the venue confirms a suitable alternative. Recheck the time, availability, package contents and cancellation terms before paying.

Nightlife in Puerto Marina

Benalmádena nightlife is more bar-led than Marbella’s high-profile club scene. That suits parties looking for music and drinks without organising the entire night around tickets and table spends.

Kaleido is the main Metro Grupo nightlife recommendation in this guide. Its official events page currently states “DJ every night”, while live performers and themed parties vary with the calendar. Check the start time, table or package, dress expectations, group conditions and any entry deadline for the chosen night.

The wider marina has other bars and pubs, but the restaurant and nightlife recommendations here remain limited to Metro Grupo venues.

A realistic three-day Benalmádena plan

Friday: arrival and an easy marina evening

Transfer to the accommodation, allow for delayed flights and meet for dinner at Metro or Jack’s. Continue to Kaleido if the evening’s programme suits the party, or keep the first night informal around the marina.

Saturday: beach, one activity and the main dinner

Spend the morning at Malapesquera Beach, book one marina-based water activity or use Kaleido’s cocktail masterclass. Do not fill the afternoon with several reservations.

Return to the accommodation to change, then choose Cantina for a cocktail-led hen dinner, Gaucho for a steak-focused stag meal or Jack’s for a larger mixed party. Finish at Kaleido when the group booking and programme have been confirmed.

Sunday: lunch before departure

Keep the final day flexible around checkout and flight times. Walk along the promenade, have lunch at Metro or Jack’s and collect the luggage before leaving for the airport. A major activity is a poor departure-day choice unless the flight is late and the party has access to showers.

Getting to Benalmádena and Puerto Marina

Málaga Airport is much closer to Benalmádena Costa than to Marbella. Allow roughly 20–30 minutes by road in ordinary traffic, then add time for delays, baggage collection and loading a large party.

The C1 Cercanías line runs from the airport towards Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel, but the station is inland rather than at Puerto Marina. It can be economical for individuals with light luggage; the final journey to the accommodation still needs planning.

For eight or more passengers, compare a pre-booked minibus with the cost and luggage capacity of several taxis. Give the transport company the full address and number of suitcases, not only the passenger count.

Avoid basing the weekend in Benalmádena while planning both nights in Marbella. Central Marbella and Puerto Banús involve a substantial road journey, and late-night return transport can remove the cost and convenience advantage.

What should the group budget for?

Current restaurant and activity prices give a useful starting point:

Jack’s group menus: €30 or €38 per person, including one stated drink; dessert costs an additional €7.

Metro two-course group menus: €25.95 or €29.95 per person; dessert costs an additional €7.

Cantina burritos: €16–€18; fajitas €16–€21.

Gaucho prime steaks: €24.50–€39, depending on the cut.

Kaleido sandwiches and burgers: roughly €14.50–€18.50; main dishes €15–€32.

Kaleido cocktail masterclass: €50 per person, with a €20-per-person deposit and a minimum of four guests.

These are price anchors, not a full weekend budget. Add accommodation, airport transport, drinks, activities and any reserved area or entertainment package. Ask whether VAT, service, deposits and compulsory extras are included before collecting payment.

Benalmádena may not work out cheaper if the party books premium accommodation, taxis to Marbella, several paid activities and a private nightlife package. The saving comes from keeping the itinerary local and making use of the marina’s walkability.

Booking checklist

Confirm that the accommodation accepts hen or stag groups.

Check whether the property is in Puerto Marina, Benalmádena Costa, Arroyo de la Miel or the Pueblo.

Give each restaurant the correct party size and occasion.

Ask whether a set menu or one payment is compulsory.

Confirm deposits, balances, cancellation terms and final-number deadlines.

Send dietary requirements and allergies in advance.

Ask about matching outfits, decorations and accessories.

Check Kaleido’s current event details rather than relying on an old poster.

Arrange an airport vehicle with enough luggage space.

Keep one wet-weather option and a realistic taxi contingency.
